Why Purchase Real Estate In Pascagoula, Mississippi?
Pascagoula is known as the ‘Singing River’ city and is located on the Gulf of Mexico and has a deep and rich history as a European settlement that dates back over 300 years. The Pascagoula River is the centerpiece of the largest unimpeded river system in the lower 48 States. This river is legendary in the culture of the entire South as the ‘Singing River’ of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Pascagoula is the Jackson County seat. According to the United States 2010 census, the population of Pascagoula was 22,392.
The name was taken from a tribe of peaceful Native Americans. Pascagoula means ‘bread eaters’ and these Native Americans inhabited this area when Hernando De Soto first made contact with them in the 1540’s. Tragically, this noble people are now extinct. The entire tribe drowned themselves while chanting as they waded hand to hand into deep river waters rather than enslave themselves to their enemy, the fierce ‘Viloxi’ Tribe. Consequently, the legend of the ‘Singing River’ was born. It is said that on still summer and fall evenings, the sad song of the Pascagoulas ‘humming’ can still be heard near the river.
For hundreds of years, visitors and residents alike have described a mysterious humming sound that rises from the waters of the river. Although theories abound, no one has explained the strange phenomenon. The sound produced by the rubbing of the rim of a crystal glass is similar to the repetitive humming or singing that can be heard in the vicinity of the river.
This group of Native Americans was followed closely by the Spanish, French and English settlers.
Pascagoula is the home of the State’s largest employer, Ingalls Shipbuilding and one of the largest Chevron refineries in the United States.
Pascagoula is conveniently located and is only a 90 minute drive to New Orleans and a 60 minute drive to Mobile.
Pascagoula Mississippi real estate has a lot to offer, including great deep-sea or freshwater fishing, an array of championship golf courses, museums, historic sites, terrific seafood restaurants, and the excitement of nine 24-hour non-stop casino resorts in nearby Harrison County. Set against a backdrop of over 5 miles of sugar-white sand beaches, the cost of quality homes in Pascagoula is surprisingly competitive compared to other communities along the Gulf of Mexico Coast that are located in Alabama and Florida.
Whether you are planning to relocate with your family or are looking for a beach front retreat, let Kelly help you with your real estate investment in Pascagoula, and guide you through the time consuming process of looking for that special property.
